Gabrielle Gilbert Makes Final At State Sectional Championships
Hawley Scores For Lady Minutemen
At Union County Championships
January 26th, Jersey City - The Union County Championship meet has become one of the better quality meets in the state over the past seven years. Many of New Jersey's premier track & field athletes reside in Union County, and scoring points at this meet is like panning for gold. The young Lady Minutemen found the treading rough at this meet, but senior Iyanah Hawley inked in two personal bests to finish 6th in the 55m hurdles at the 2015 edition of the Union County Championships at the Jersey City Armory.
Iyanah registered a personal best 8.83 seconds in the preliminary heats before eking out a .01 improvement (8.82) in the final. Her final's performance made her the 4th fastest hurdler in school history.
Speaking of all-time performances, fellow senior Monica Flores rolled 4 laps around the 200m mondo track to clock a 2:31.01 800m run. That finish made her the 5th fastest 800m runner in school history.

"DESTINEE'S CHILD"
Superstar Freshman Dominates Field of 74 at the
NYC Armory in Manhattan
January 17th, NYC - Upon observing Destinee Everett, a freshman sprinter for the Lady Minutemen, zoom down the track for a convincing win, one of her teammates questioned with disbelief, "She's a freshman?" Yes, she is...
The unflappable freshman bolted down the center lane of one of the most prestigious venues in USA Track & Field (The NYC Armory) to post her most defining run of the season. Her mark of 7.86 dominated all freshman 55m runners at the 2015 Molloy Stanner Games in Manhattan.
Surprisingly, Destinee appeared to be unimpressed by her performance. She reported that the race felt "easy", and that she did not push as hard as she could. Judging by that comment, look for more spectacular performance from the eager frosh as we ease into championship season.
Several EHS All-Time performers were also evident at this weekend's event. Senior star sprinter Gabrielle Gilbert finished 6th in the varsity 55m dash in 7.60 seconds. In her preliminary round, she sped a quick 7.55, #4 All-Time EHS. It was also the fastest short dash performance by an EHS athlete in 14 years! Later in the program, she added a 43.75 heat winner in the 300m. That mark launched Gabby to #3 on the EHS all-time list.
Fellow senior captain Iyanah Hawley didn't collect a victory this meet, but her 8.85 flight in the 55m hurdles nudged her up to #5 on the EHS all-time list. She also added a 45.26 300m performance to etch her name in at #9 on the EHS all-time list.
The Lady Minuteman mid-distance performers also joined the assault on the record books. Seniors Monica Flores and Christiana Limage rearranged the EHS All-Time 1k list. Monica improved her past position, posting a quick 3:23.06 for a #5 listing. Newcomer Christiana added a workman-like 3:36.08 performance to the list, sliding her in at #9 on the all-time list.
The 2015 edition of the 4 x 800m relay also added a seasonal best to the mix. Limage (2:49.1) and Flores (2:31.4) joined juniors Naika Janvier (2:52.8) and Chantel Monegro (2:54.3) to cross the line in 11:08.11. Look for this scrappy group to dip under the 11:00 mark before season's end.
