Jean-Louis 19:41 Shocker Stuns Field
Esther Jean-Louis races across the finish line
October 24th, Warinanco Park - What a difference a week makes. After last week's conference loss, Esther self-diagnosed her own race and vowed to not make the same mistakes twice. Let's just say if Esther were a doctor, her diagnosis and remedies were spot on as she pulled off the shocker of the meet. Not mentioned as a pre-meet front-runner, Esther delivered her own dose of pressure and helped drag the field to one of the deepest finishes in meet history at the Union County Cross Country Championships. Six runners broke the magical 20:00 mark, and 25 athletes dipped under 21:00.
Esther's time of 19:41 makes her the 2nd fastest Lady Minuteman in school history, trailing only Jessica Rodriguez' 19:39 run back in 2003.
Not to be outdone, senior Natalie Antunes battled a breathing ailment to post a lifetime best of 21:18. Giorvania LeRouge, a junior at Hamilton Preparatory Academy, raced her way to a 55 second personal best of 22:35. Catarina Rodrigues (21:49), Chachoune Janvier (24:06), and Balbina Alvarez (25:51) rounded out the scoring.
The Lady Minutemen also smashed the school 5-runner scoring average record of 22:14 they set last week with their first sub-22:00 ever (21:54.40).
