Lady Minutemen Make Strides In Jamesburg
Jean-Louis Continues Record Streak; Artero Makes A Top 10 Debut
September 28th, Jamesburg, NJ - Success is usually measured personally by each individual, leaving us to ponder if everyone in a race has achieved some measure of success.
8th Place in the Stud Race (top 3 runners on a team) was not the finish that Esther Jean-Louis had been hoping for, but her performance spoke for itself at the Central Jersey Shootout at Thompson Park in Jamesburg.
Esther's performance of 20:04 crushed the school course record of 21:57 that she had established as a sophomore in 2011.
"I was in first place headed into the last part of the race. We were beginning to attack an uphill, and my legs didn't respond today. I know I could've won that race."
In the Key Man race (7, 8, 9 runners), sophomore Dennis Artero continued her torrid improvement in each and every race. Dennis finished 8th in 23.20, #4 on the EHS XC All-Time List.
"I'm disappointed because I know I could've done better. Next time..."
First year senior Victoria Wiafe collected her 1st medal and jumped onto the EHS All-Time list at #6 with her 24:52 performance. A gutsy performance was also turned in by Dormervline Thermitus, who crossed the line in 27:22.

Lady Minutemen Improve At The NJCTC Class Invitational
September 22nd, Elizabeth, NJ - Esther Jean Louis has a checklist somewhere. On that checklist, are the school records for every course that a Lady Minuteman harrier has ever competed on. First, there was Lincoln Park in Jersey City. Her performance of 20:30 lopped a whopping 59 seconds from the EHS course record that she had set the previous season.
Next, the championship course at Warinanco Park. The school record of 20:11 for the 3.2 mile course was set by the precocious freshman Jessica Rodriguez during the 2001 NJSIAA Sectional Championships. Esther went right to work in the senior class race, on the 11:30 A.M. starter's gun.
The 133 race contestants featured some quick starters, and Esther emerged as one of the front-runners. She passed the one mile marker in 6:02 and in 3rd position.
Esther covered the second mile in 5:57, putting her in a close 4th position behind the 2012 Union County Cross Country Champion, Gillian McIlroy of Summit.
As the runners funneled into the stadium area to complete one circuit around the track, Esther held the 4th position, but the clock was now her prime focus.
Arms pumping and face grimacing, Esther stormed across the finish line in 20:04, 7 seconds below the school record.
"I'm personally disappointed. I was really trying to break 20:00 today. Overall, I'm still happy I broke the school record."
In the sophomore class race, newcomer Dennis Artero continued her stellar season with a new personal best of 23:49. Other finishers on the day were seniors Victoria Wiafe (25:49PR) and Dormervline Thermitus (26:38)
